Morning coffee, salty air, wheels on concrete, the Indian Ocean a few steps away. Skateboarding, surfing, and the slow rhythm of Sri Lanka’s south coast are all blended here into one glorious, sun-drenched stay at Gaia Soul. This is the place where folks come for a few nights and end up staying longer because from here, the spots spread out all around, like urethane on blacktop.

Gaia Soul is your base for skating the south coast. Warm up on our concrete halfpipe - whippy and fun for airs, handplants, and flowing lines. Our skatepark has the only bank to curb combo, vert quarter-pipe, and slappy curb on the whole friggin island (not to mention a long-ass ledge).
From here, it’s easy to hit nearby spots, then come back to skate your own as the sun drops. Friday sunset sessions bring locals and travelers together - come roll through!
“I didn’t expect to skate this much on a trip like this - the halfpipe and skatepark are super fun and the vibe makes it even better” ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Leo, DE
"Perfect 4 ft skate bowl — an amazing place to surf and skate" ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Johnny, AU
“I skate a lot of place but not many where you can skate and hear the ocean at the same time. Gaia Soul is trè magnifique.” ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - Mike B, The Skate Nomad
This non-profit community project is located in Polhena, a suburb of Matara. Their goal is to encourage local kids to skate and surf. It's a fun park for carving and has some good hips. The phase 2 build is now complete and it's only half an hour from Gaia Soul.
A sesh at The Yard with the local homies - then back home for sunset.

Midigama Skatepark is about 40 minutes west of Gaia Soul on the road to Galle. There's a little skate bowl set amongst the palm trees and a recent update with a ledge, manual pad, pyramid and quarter-pipe that can be skated like a spine into the bowl. If you forgot your board, no worries, brah - they got some boards that are free to use and plenty of areas to chill out, watch the skating and sip a cold one. You'll also find Chamara's Surfboard Repair & Rental there which has a wide range of surfboards available for rent and a ding repair service.
Make the trip to Midigama - then come back to something chilled out.

Lamana in Ahangama is less a skatepark and more a crossover space where skating, music, and nightlife all collide. The bowl sits at the center, so sessions unfold alongside DJs, drinks, and a rotating mix of locals and travelers, mellow some nights, full energy on others. It’s not built for long, technical runs, and it can get crowded, but that’s not really the point. You come here to skate a bit, hang out a lot, and be part of whatever’s happening around you, where the line between session and social scene disappears.
Catch a session at Lamana — then trade the scene for your own space.

Soul Temple Surfing School has a mellow, wooden mini-ramp to skate for when the waves fall flat in Waligama. It's a bit of trek from Gaia Soul but if you're cruising down the costal road from Columbo, it'd be a welcome pit stop for a mini sesh and caffeine refill.
Surf, skate, repeat — and have your own place to land in between.

Nestled just a few minutes from Mawella Beach in southern Sri Lanka, Gihan’s Surf & Skate House is a chilled eco-friendly haven for beach lovers and board riders alike. Gihan has carved out a grassroots skateboard bowl right on the property — a handcrafted concrete playground where anyone can roll, carve and cruise under the tropic sun between surf sessions.
Find the hidden spots - then come back to your own skatepark for a sunset sesh.

From DIY bowls to curated parks — and your own halfpipe waiting back home.
